TheDefenseCommercialTelecommunications Network(DCTN)hasprovidedtheDefenseCommunicationsAgency(DCA)witha dedicated, integrated networkofferingfeature-rich digitalservices spanningvoice,dataandvideocapabilities. The serviceis providedover a uniqueprivate networkdesignedto makeefficientuse of the terrestrial andsatelliteportionsof the networkin eventually connecting the160+ locations. A majorplanningarea is to makeDCTN an IntegratedServicesDigitalNetwork(ISDN). ISDNcapabilities willsignificantly enhance theset of new servicesandfeaturesDCTNwill offerto thecustomer. Initialserviceof DCTNwas providedin 1986withfullvoice,data andvideoteleconferencing capabilities. Discussionwill beginwitha description of thisnetwork including access,internodal, and service features.
