Aninexpensive, integrated circuitsinglechannel analyzer,counterandratemeterwitha logicunitto drivea steppingmotorforpositioning a devicesuch asa gratingofa monochrometer orvaryinganapplied voltageisdescribed.Inadditionto theanalyzer andcounter,thecircuitry includes a timebasefor controlfunctions, circuitsforsynchronous counting to subtractphotomultiplier ordetectordarknoise, a serialintegrator forweaksignalsanda ratemeter forlargersignals,andthestepping motorlogic. Thesystemhasbeenappliedtostudiesofoptical spectraproducedina gasproportional scintiallation counter,3wheresinglephotoncountingwasutilized witha 3/4metermonochrometer.
