notcarry overintothepurely digital system whereifwe ignore forthemomentredundant logic designs andregard ICmodules asbeing ourequivalent ofcomponent level, then afaulty part inside theICwill cause thesystem tofail andthe ICwill thenhavetobereplaced. Ifwenowconsider theproblem ofdetecting anddiagnosingfaults inahybrid system, thefollowing logical question canbeposed: Arethese established analogue testing methods ofanyuseinthefield ofhybrid systems inwhich there isdynamic interaction between digital andanalogue elements? Itisalso worthwhile tosearch foranypossible phenomena characteristic ofhybrid systems andexploit their information content inestablishing thestatus ofthe system. Thepurpose ofthis paperistoreport oncertain fundamental studies undertaken bythepresent authors with a viewtoextending someoftheanalogue system test techniques tohybrid control systems, thereby partially answering this question.
