A Distributed Channel Assignment for802. 1-based Multi-Radio WirelessMesh Networks

In thispaper we propose a distributed channel assignment protocol (DCAP)fortopology formation in the IEEE802.11 basedwireless meshnetwork. Thenon-overlapping channels are assigned tothenetworkinterfaces according to thesimpleheuristics (suchas degreeandnode-ID) withthe goalstoenableconnectivity and reduceinterference inthe network. Ns-2simulation results are presented andcompared withthesolutions frominteger linear programming (ILP)and thecommon channel assignment (CCA)algorithm. We measured thenumberofconcurrent links, averagethroughput andtheend- to-endlatency. We showedthattheDCAP produces optimally connected topology andperforms better inall casescompared to CCA.
