Precise identification of strain nodes and subsequent positioning of strain gauges at correct position is a critical task in successful design of octagonal ring transducers. Moreover calibration of octagonal transducer also plays significant role in the accurate measurement of forces. In this study, a double extended octagonal ring (DEOR) transducer was designed for measuring the forces acting on powered disc. Exact strain nodes were found by using finite element analysis. The developed DEOR transducer was calibrated on calibration table as well as by actual mounting. The calibration curves were obtained and the cross sensitivity was checked. The finite element technique was found to be appropriate for identifying strain nodes giving less than 2% cross sensitivity effect in all directions. The position of DEOR transducer was found important for minimizing the cross sensitivity effects. DEOR transducer was found to be compact and efficient for the measurement of forces acting in three directions.
