OnOptimal KeyDisclosure Interval for p TESLA:Analysis ofAuthentication Delay versusNetwork Cost
Yongjie Fan, Ing-Ray Chen · 2005
JUTESLA isasymmetric-key based broadcast authentication algonrithm thatperiodically broadcasts keyauthentication packets insensor networks witha keydisclosure delayinterval, T. Determining appropriate values forT isimportant toboth performance andsecurity. We analyze how to structure ,uTESLAtosatisfy application imposed security and performance requirements while minimizing thenetwork cost. Themaincontribution ofthepaper isaquantitative analysis oftheoptimal value ofTsuchthat theauthentication broadcast cost isminimized whilesatisfying application imposed constraints ondataauthentication delay andpacket rejection probability. We modelthesystem using stochastic Petri nets. Ouranalysis results showthat an optimal value ofTexists andcanbedetermined asa function ofmodel parameter values characterizing the operating conditions.
