Commonbusroute navigation system provides distance andtransferring information based on theuser-determined start point andendpoint onthemap.Thispaper presents theresearch and experiment ofanadvanced busroutenavigation system inBeijing, whichcanadditionally provide travel timeinformation fromstart toend.Thetravel timeispredicted basedon statistical andreal-time traffic information. InBeijing, about 10000taxies sendGPSdata toa traffic information center togenerate real-time traffic data, andthecenter accumulates the historical traffic dataforgenerating statistical database. Field test ofoursystem wascarried outinJanuary 2007, andtheexperiment result showsthereal-time andstatistical traffic information canbeusednotonly forcarnavigation system, butalso forpublic transit service. Inourexperiment, theaverage error rateofpredicted travel timeisabout10%,whichis comparable tocarnavigation system.
