Codesign techniques allowexploring different design alternatives atthesystem level specification bymeans ofrealizations inhardware andsoftware foreachcomposing blocks, andthustoevaluate thesystemperformance before choosing thefinalimplementation. In thispaperthe performance estimation intermsofarea,timeandpower dissipation ofa noise canceller filter bothinsoftware and hardware implementations ispresented. Theapproximation hasconsisted ofthespecification oftheprobleminANSIC anditstransformation through synthesis tools intoassembler codefortheDSP56000microprocessor andinto RTL VHDL synthesizable codeby meansofSPARK (3). Alsomore precise hardware estimation forFPGA'sandstandard cells ispresented.
