Fivesamplesofa digital faultrecorder have beeninuse since 1981intheEDF's400kVsubstations. Aftera description oftheirdesign andperformances (5kHzsampling frequency on eachofthe8 analogand16logical inputs), this paper gives some examplesofthedatatheyhavecollected. Particularly, one recorder hasmonitored a digital distance relay, andallowed a precise analysis ofitsbehaviour. An evaluation ofoperational andreliability results isgiven.
