Inthis paperanovel method ispresentedfor thereduction ofbiascaused byharmonic excitation intheidentification ofHigher OrderSinusoidal Input Describing Functions (HOSIDF). HOSIDF arearecently introduced generalization ofthetheory ofthedescrib- ingfunction. HOSIDFdescribe themagnitude andphaserelations between theindividual harmonic components intheoutput signal of anon-linear system andthesinusoidal excitation signal. Inthepre- sented method, theoutput signal ofanon-linear system subjected to harmonic excitation isnumerically split upinto afraction caused by thenon-linear response duetothefundamental input signal compo- nentandthefraction caused bythequasi-linear response duetothe harmonic input signal components. Thisseparation isbased onthe assumption that thenon-linear effects ofintermodulation canbene- glected, compared tothetheeffects caused bythegeneration ofhar- monics andgaincompression/expansion. Themethod isdemonstrated
