We have developed a CIRCdecoder which provides compa tible high-speed decoding and high -performance error correction with high precision, and performs real- time, high-speed error correction (up to 24x) by means of orip'nal technologies. We have applied the CIRC decoder to a single chlp, high-speed CD-ROM decoder LSI on which CDDSIj CD-ROM decoder functions, a D IrD-ECC interface, an ATAPlinterface, andservomotor controlare integrated. This LSI achieves fully CAV (Constant Angle Velocity). Solomon Code) performs double error correction in C1 and fourfold error correction in C2, in order to achieve highly trustworthy data. We reduced the steps which were necessary for error correction, thereby making it easier to realize higher speeds. SmalI chip size Even though the CIRC decoder operates at much higher speeds than conventional CIRC decoders, it consists of only about 10,000 gates, so it lowers the cost and power consumption of the CD-ROM drive. Compatible with both CAVand CLV
