We propose a new SetPartitioning InHierarchical Trees (SPIHT) based meshcompression framework. The3Dmesh isfirst transformed to2Dimages onaregular gridstructure. Then, this image-like representation iswavelet transformed and SPIHTisapplied onthewavelet domain data. Themethod is progressive because theresolution ofthereconstructed mesh canbechanged byvarying thelength oftheone-dimensional data stream created bySPIHTalgorithm. Nearly perfect reconstruction ispossible ifall ofthedata stream isreceived.
