Is there an ideal type? Developing planning and evaluation models for a digital social inclusion project: Digital Doorways, South Africa

This paper describes a consultation with the Meraka Institute (African Advanced Institute for Information and Communications Technology, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) South Africa. The purpose of the consultation was to develop an evaluation plan for the Digital Doorway project. The Digital Doorway is a major project of the South African government to promote digital inclusion in remote townships in that country that can be compared to the One Lap Top Per Child (OLPC) initiative of western techno-philanthropists. An evaluation plan for the Digital Doorway project has been developed, as the first step in a proposed research partnership between Meraka and Monash University.
