During the Optimization and Generalization of Lloyd's algorithm for medical image Compression process the modified algorithm searches for empty cells i.e. the unused code vectors. Also the modified algorithm keeps track of the image vector producing maximum distortion corresponding to the code vector representing maximum number of image vectors. This maximum misrepresentation of image vectors are used to replace the unused code vectors thus removing the empty cells from the code book. As the repeated process takes place on the empty cells are completely removed and the final code book is free from empty cells. The objective of image compression is to reduce redundancy of the image in order to be able to store or transmit data in an efficient form. The performance measures can be compared using parameters such as MSE (Mean Square Error) and PSNR (Picture Signal to Noise Ratio). The Implementation has been done by using MATLAB 7.0.
