An Energy-Efficient MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks for Wide Area Large Scale Environmental Monitoring

In this paper, we propose a new energy aware medium access control (MAC) protocol for wireless sensor networks with wide-area large scale environmental monitoring applications. The proposed MAC scheme is specifically designed for wireless sensor networks that follow a query-based data gathering paradigm and at the same time takes into consideration event-based data packets.
