Energy awareness for computation and p rotocol management is becoming a crucial factor in the design of protocols and algorithms. On the other ha nd, in order to support node mobility, scalable rou ting strategies have been designed and these protocols try to consi der the path duration in order to respect some QoS constraints and to reduce the route discovery procedures. Often energy saving and path duration and stability can be two contrasting efforts and trying to satisfy both of t hem can be very difficult. In this paper, a novel r outing strategy is proposed. Location based routing protocols are the kinds of routing protocols, which use of nodes’ loc ation information, instead of links’ information for rout ing. They are also known as position based routing. In position based routing protocols, it is supposed that the pa cket source node has position information of itself and its neighbors and packet destination node. In recent ye ars, many location based routing protocols have bee n developed for ad hoc and sensor networks. In this paper we sh all present the concept of location-based routing p rotocol, its advantages and disadvantages. We shall also look in to two popular location-based protocols: Geographic Adaptive Fidelity (GAF) and Geographic and Energy Aware Routing (GEAR).. In cooperative protocol, location base d routing protocol is implemented which make use of nodes’ location information, instead of links’ infor mation for routing. They are also known as position based rout ing. This algorithm makes use of nodes which are no t active into sleeping state over a period of time. Thus making c ooperative network more energy efficient and implemented using Geographic Adaptive Fidelity (GAF)algorithm.
