Withtherateofgrowth oftheComputer Communication Networks, thefuture networks areexpected tocomprise of hundreds orthousands ofnodal switching computers. Inview ofthecomputational timerequirements, ultimately the topological design costofsuchlarge-scale networks would growexponentially withthesizeofthenetwork. Therefore, efficient procedures forthecost-effective designand operation oflarge-scale networks arerequired. Inthis paper, a multi-level hierarchical approach ispresented for thetopological designofa large-scale communication network employing bothterrestrial andsatellite links. Given thelarge-scale nodalswitching computer locations, such nodes aredecomposed into anM-level Hierarchical clustering (MHC)structure. Then,anM-level Hierarchical Topological (MHT)structure isconstructed overtheMHC structure. Finally, anM-level Hierarchical Routing (MHR)schemeis presented forroutingthe messagesbetweenany source-destination node-pair. Also, anexpression forthe average timedelay ofamessageinanM-level hierarchically clustered and topologically structured communication network isgiven.
