TEACHING FLUID MECHANICS WITH FLOW VISUALIZATION VIDEOS

This paper describes a new series of 10-15 minute narrated videos that use flow visualization to illustrate basic fluid mechanics concepts. These videos are distributed in DVD form accompanying a basic fluids textbook. Fluid mechanics is fundamentally visual, and visual topics can be taught by modern multimedia methods. Our philosophy of thus providing a “glimpse through the research laboratory window, ” as an adjunct to the textbook but not a replacement for it, is described and
