Sorting a Large Data Set When Space is Limited

Selvaratnam Sridharma · 2012

Sometimes, there may be insufficient disk space to sort a large data set. One approach that might work to solve this problem is to use TAGSORT with Proc Sort. It will reduce the space needed to sort. If this approach does not work, one can divide the large data set into smaller data sets, and then sort each of the smaller datasets. Finally, these sorted smaller data sets can be combined to create the sorted large data set. A macro developed here, can do the above process automatically.
