Extracting Qbject-Oriented Specification from Procedurally Qriented Programs

Harry Marsh Sneed, Erika Nydry, Rosenheimer Landstrasse · 1995

There is an increasing demand to migrate legacy programs from the mainframe to networked work station computers. An important prerequisite to such migrations is an adequate and up-to-date documentation of the programs. Since the programs often have to be redesi!gned, the documentation must reflect the c urrent program design in such a manner thait this may be used as a blueprint for reimplementation . If the programs are to be redesigned as object-oriented programs. then the documentation should a7SO be object:-oriented . The fo77owiny paper presents an approach to automatica7ly extract ing object - oriented design documenta tion from1 existing COBOL mainframe programs.
