,QBSTRACT: This study investigates the efficient representation of non-linear functions by data-driven algorithms for the design of fuzzy controllers. This is done by defining practical efficiency factors. Emphasis is placed on the comparison of the results given by a new algorithm for the design of Mamdani-type controllers with those obtained by neuro-fuzzy and other approaches.
