Simulation of Printing and Image Capture for Linking Applications
Mikko Nuutinen, Pirkko T. Oittinen · 2009
Digital watermarking can be used as a technology for linking printed products and material of digital media. The simple use case is a quick one-touch access to the specific internet site with the aid of printed image and camera phone. The main goal of this study was to prepare at least an approach for the simulation model which can be used to evaluate the specific watermarking technology used in the linking applications field. In addition, one goal was to find out how the different parts of the printing and imaging channel are affecting the performance of the embedded watermark. The inputs to the prepared simulation model were lens distortions, spatial sampling, noise and response function parameters. The outputs were the bit error rates measured by different parts of the printing and imaging channel. Based on the results, the response of the printer and imaging device had the most significant effect on the performance.
