Remote control and remote maintenance for distributed technical processes, particularly /or autarchically automated processes, are becoming increasingly important in automation. Users of different backgrounds with heterogeneous software and hardware plotJom gather information on remote control and remote maintenance systems to meet their specific demands which makes it necessary to provide for free data exchange. State ofthe ari in remote control and remote maintenance are proprietary systems preventing the required information from passing system boundaries. It is true that in recent years, the intemet and its related technologies had a strong impact on system designs, but did not completely eliminate restrictions on data exchange.
