In this paper a new method to support the adherence to copyrights is described. The method is based on informing users about the usage rights of the digital media files on their local workstation. After the definition of URM, we will show how a user can manage (self made) digital licenses. Further aspects of URM like how to define rights, digital signatures and file sharing will be discussed.
