Application of Lattice Basis Reduction

Bachelor Thesis, Lena Likavec · 2011

Lattice basis reduction is quite a strong and helpful tool. The most revolutionary algorithm using lattice basis reduction is the LLL algorithm. The LLL algorithm was invented 1982 by Arjen Lenstra, Hendrik Lenstra, and Laslo Lovasz. Since then, it finds its application and improvements in many areas. It is used for example in cryptography to attack the Merkle-Damgard hash function. In another area such as number theory it is used to factorize polynomials. In communication theory, lattice basis reduction is applied to improve the performance of MIMO-Systems. These are only some applications. There are several more applications of lattice basis reduction. This thesis gives an overview of areas where lattice basis reduction is applied to.
