t has been about three months now since our first installment of By the Numbers. We trust that in the interim you have run right out, obtained a C (or similar) compiler, brushed up on the language, completed the work outlined for representing complex numbers and doing complex arithmetic, and found (or rigged up) some sort of plotting package. As we promised, we will now devote some attention to polynomials and rational functions.
