concise summary of pervasive computing and also the challenges faced in computer systems research posed by the emerging field of per vasive computing. This papper probes the relationsh ip of this new field to its predecessors distributed systems a nd mobile c omputing. First, the application data and the functionality need to be held apart, so that they c an graciously evolve in a global computing infrastr ucture. Second, the applications must be able to acquire any resour ce they need at any time, so that they ca n continuously provide their services in a highly dynamic environment. Thi rd, pervasive computing requires a common system platform, which allows the applications to run across the ran ge of devices and to be automatically distributed a nd installed. per also discusses about the growing debate over pr ivacy, safety and environmental implications. Final ly the paper closes with a discussion of the research nece ssary to develop these capabilities. Ubicomp, services, sensors, networks, microprocessor s,heterogeneous.
