In the first section of this article I describe what document classes and packages are and how they relate to L ATEX 2.09’s style files. Then the process of upgrading existing style files for use with L ATEX2 is described. Finally I give an overview of the standard packages and document classes that are part of the distribution of L ATEX2 .
