MILPACS - militarized packet switching system

A.J.W. van Daal, L. Swopes, J.C. Lienard · 2003

Describes the services, attributes, and survivability features of MILPACS, a strategic and tactical wide-area packet-switching network. The principal design criteria and objectives of MILPACS are the ability to withstand physical and electronic warfare attacks and the ability to continue to provide service under these and other conditions of stress. The survivability of MILPACS is typified by attributes such as mobility, precedence, preemption, multimedia, NATO getaways, and dynamic routing algorithms. A robust military packet switching network is described, the features of which exemplify its applicability to tactical and strategic requirements. Software obsolescence is avoided by using a layered architecture which decouples the insertion of new transmission technology from existing software as it evolves.>
