Semantic Technology and CDISC Standards
Frederik Malfait · 2013
Over the past few years there has been increased interest in semantic technology as a foundation for metadata registries (MDR) in general and clinical data standards in particular. In this paper we will introduce the principles of RDF and Linked Data, and show how they can be applied to metadata management. We also highlight its role in a number of projects and initiatives, such as the Roche MDR for clinical data standards, the FDA/PhUSE Semantic Technology project, and a number of public initiatives. Of particular interest may be the use of RDF to represent CDISC standards such as SDTM and how RDF is well positioned to represent and link different types of metadata related to domains, variables, controlled terminology, and validation checks.
