The 2 nd WoWMoM Workshop on Adaptive and DependAble Mobile Ubiquitous Systems (ADAMUS 2008) Message from the Workshop Chairs
Chris L. Blondia, Marcello Cinque · 2008
Welcome to Newport Beach and to the second edition of the workshop on Adaptive and DependAble Mobile Ubiquitous Systems (ADAMUS 2008). Building on the success of the last year event, this workshop aims at fostering the exchange of ideas and lively discussions in order to reduce the gap between research achievements and industrial applications in the field of adaptive and dependable mobile ubiquitous systems. While this topic is interdisciplinary and involves several research areas, from dependable computing, to ubiquitous computing, mobility and adaptation, the workshop focuses mainly on novel, adaptive techniques for improving the user experience, and on architectural/technical solutions to some relevant aspect of this novel view of mobile ubiquitous systems. The program of ADAMUS 2008 consists of 6 high-quality papers, covering the above mentioned topics. The review process was thorough and selective, conducting to an acceptance rate of 63%. Each paper was selected according to three reviews produced mainly by Program Committee members and a little percentage of external reviewers. Selected papers come from several countries around the world, with a good balance between academic and industrial research. This year, technical discussions are enriched by several special sessions. In particular, we are glad to open the workshop with a remarkable keynote speech by Franklin Reynolds, distinguished engineering fellow at the Nokia Research Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The workshop also hosts a demo competition session to provide authors with the opportunity to run live demonstrations of their research and to interact directly with ADAMUS and other WoWMoM attendees that will be required to vote for the best demos. Best demos will be awarded with special Nokia gifts based on their review scores, onsite voting results, and technical program committee evaluation. Finally, the workshop is followed by a panel to discuss the presented topics and to indicate possible future avenues of exploration for this challenging research area. We would like to thank WoWMoM workshop chair and collaborators for their precious help in handling IEEE contacts. Our next thanks go to all the authors who manifested their interest in ADAMUS 2008 by submitting high quality manuscripts to the workshop. Special thanks are finally due to Program Committee members and additional reviewers for the high quality and objective reviews they provided. On behalf of the Program Committee members, the authors, and invited speakers, we hope you will enjoy the program.
