Distributed Multimedia & itsapplications areevolving dayby day. However, theissues oflimited transmission bandwidth, network reliability, QoS,andflexibility arenotyetcompletely resolved. Ontheother hand, thewww isgrowing atarapid paceandahugeamount ofnewmultimedia dataisintroduced everyday. Thisdataincludes downloadable andstream-able multimedia content. Toenhance thestreaming quality with theavailable bandwidths, several newcodecs andstandards areunder development. Thispaper initially discusses theMPEG-4andMPEG-7standards forstreaming anddescription ofmultimedia content respectively and proposes anagent based architecture tointroduce a distributed flexible schemetoquery, search, filter, and gather results using themultimedia content descriptions asprovided by theMPEG-7standard. Aresource agent hasbeenused toconvert themultimedia content descriptions ofMPEG-7toalocal XML repository, sothat efficient query andplatform independence canbeachieved.
