Signalization and Interlocking Design for a Railway Yard: A Supervisory Control Approach by Enabling Arcs
Mustafa Seçkin, Mehmet Turan Söylemez · 2010
Signalization and interlocking systems are vital parts in achieving safety on railways. Early railway signaling was realized by railway guards who showed red flag or lamp to warn the driver of the train in case of emergency. By the development of faster trains and the increasing density on railways, the need for efficient interlocking and signalization systems becomes more crucial to overcome the accidents caused by human errors. In this study, a railway yard is modelled by Automation Petri Nets (APNs). A Petri-Net based supervisor is then obtained and used to guarantee the APN model of the system not to reach forbidden states or unwanted situations.
