Median filtering Frameworks and their Application to Image Enhancement

A standard image restoration requirement is to remove randomly occurring impulses without disturbing edges. Median filtering is popular in removing salt and pepper noise and works by replacing the pixel value with the median value in the neighborhood of that pixel .However there are many modifications of the median filter in the literature . In addition to standard median filter , we have weighted median filter , directional median filter , switching median filter and adaptive median filter. Therefore , we will study these median filtering frameworks in the paper.
