Fitting by monotone orthogonal chains

In this paper, we study the problem of fltting a point set by a monotone orthogonal polygonal chain, i.e., a chain consisting of few consecutive orthogonal line segments, and flnding the best direction for that fltting. We also extend the problem to the three-dimensional space where the chain is interpreted as a connected conflguration of orthogonal planes.
