I’ll give an introduction to R’s package system and the process of creating, checking, and building a simple package from scratch. I’ll touch upon the inclusion of C/C++ code and the use of basic S3 and S4 in packages. I hope to conclude by showing o Steve Weston’s brilliant foreach package, which provides a wonderfully exible, portable, and easy-to-use framework for parallel computing. The examples and latter topics relate to package design in interesting ways.
