Knowledge-Rich Intelligent Agents for SOF Training

Randolph M. Jones, Brian Stensrud, Glenn Taylor · 2009

This paper provides an overview of a variety of app lications of knowledge-based systems and intelligen t agents to modeling and simulation for special operations trai ning. There are a number of ways in which intellig ent agents can support training; including modeling special-operat ions individuals, other members of the blue forces, as well as opponent forces. The paper presents examples of ea ch of these and provides a description of the knowl edge acquisition and engineering efforts we have develop ed to build such systems. Applying intelligent age nts to simulation-based training provides new opportunitie s to develop training exercises that are more consi stent, less expensive, and more portable. These all provide op portunities for special operations members to train individually when they have time, rather than needing to schedul e large-scale events.
