A Biologically Inspired EDA Framework for Nanotechnologies

E. Kolonis, M. Nicolaidis · 2010

Silicon-based CMOS technologies are predicted to reach their ultimate limits shortly after 2010. Research on nanotechnologies is actively conducted in an increasing number of institutions, in a world-wide effort to develop alternative technologies able to maintain the promise of Moor's law. They should allow to revolutionize the computing systems by integrating tremendous numbers of devices at low cost. These will have a profound impact on the architectures of these systems and will require a new paradigm of EDA. The present work proposes such an EDA framework, aimed at fitting the requirements and constraints of such technologies, and allowing a more efficient use of the huge computing power that these technologies would bring. To develop this framework we use the paradigm of biologically inspired systems as a study case of complex computing systems.
