Node Numbering and Classification Technique to Optimize XML Query

As the eXtensible Markup Language XML becomes a standard for data exchange and retrieval over the Internet, the topic of optimizing the search time and space is a matter of discussion among several research and educational communities. In this research we discuss the XML query optimization methods and techniques and highlight some of the important work done in the topic so far. At the end of this paper we propose a node numbering and classification technique (NNC) to restrict the search in XML document to small portion of the XML data. The node numbering and classification technique showed good performance in shortening the time taken to process queries.
