paper discusses the challenges involved in advocating Free/Libre/Open Source Software (FLOSS) to the students, faculty of engineering institutions in India, as observed by the author. It provides an overview of the current engineering education system, its drawbacks, and the mindsets of the students, faculty, and institution management. The methods used to advocate Free/Libre/Open Source Software to improve the education standards are also addressed. The views expressed in this paper are solely those of the author based on his advocacy work since 2004.
