RUT - development handbook RUT 9.42 Debugging with GDB v3.1

Olov Johansson · 2006

This document is intended as a description and formalization of the typical process of debugging a program and an overview of the needed commands in the common debugger GDB (The GNU Project Debugger), as well as pointers to where to look for more information. It is rather intended as a crash-course to the process of debugging using GDB, than as a manual for GDB. GDB can be used to inspect the activities inside a running application or to investigate why an application has crashed. GDB is cross-platform, often used as a companion to the GNU Compiler Collection and mostly used for debugging programs written in either C or C++, although there is support for other languages as well.
