Draggable and Droppable

Richard York · 2015

The jQuery UI library is a collection of reusable components that enables one to create user-interface functionality quickly. This chapter begins coverage of the jQuery UI library with the Draggable and Droppable libraries. The Draggable library gives one the ability to make any element on a page draggable. Making an element draggable is easy: First, one needs to include the UI library that includes the Draggable plugin; then, after one makes a selection with jQuery, one simply chains the method draggable() to the selection. The chapter presents an example in which one creates a file manager that looks somewhat like Mac OS X Finder. The jQuery UI Droppable plugin enables one to create and manipulate a variety of things associated with dropping one element onto another, including what happens while you drag one element over a drop zone and what happens when a drop takes place.
