Pitching Using Social Media

Julio Romo · 2012

This chapter focuses on the concept of pitching and impact of social media on it. Open channels like Twitter provide public relations (PRs) and communications professionals with the opportunity to follow their contacts and see, learn and listen to their daily life and routine. Social networking has enabled brands and organisations to become storytellers. It has empowered people into sharing and reporting content. Brands have a wide range of channels at their disposal, enabling them to humanise their views and stories. Forums and the audiences that populate them can be central to any online media relations initiative. Forums are monitored and provide journalists and bloggers with quality insight and, as such, engagement with administrators can enable final audience to get the information that is wished to be promoted. Effective understanding of people will ensure that being good at public relations is no longer to be expected. Being great at understanding people will be the minimum prerequisite.
