The Decomposition of Stochastic Systems

We present a procedure of realizing a stochastic system by interconnecting smaller stochastic systems. It is shown that every n-state stochastic system can be decomposed into a whirl interconnection of m r-state component stochastic systems, where the three parameters n, m and r satisfy certain inequalities. The basic idea from Hartmanis' (1962) substitution property for deterministic automata.
