Review of Basic Data Analytic Methods Using R
EMC Education Services · 2015
This chapter introduces the basic functionality of the R programming language and environment. The first section gives an overview of how to use R to acquire, parse, and filter the data as well as how to obtain some basic descriptive statistics on a dataset. A useful way to detect patterns and anomalies in the data is through the exploratory data analysis with visualization. Exploratory data analysis is a data analysis approach to reveal the important characteristics of a dataset, mainly through visualization. The chapter discusses how to use some basic visualization techniques and the plotting feature in R to perform exploratory data analysis. Visualization is useful for data exploration and presentation, but statistics is crucial because it may exist throughout the entire Data Analytics Lifecycle. The final section of the chapter focuses on statistical inference, such as hypothesis testing and analysis of variance in R.
