Collection and use of environmental data for transport management: a view from local authorities

This study forms part of user requirement study of the MESSAGE (Mobile Environment Sensor Systems Across a Grid Environment) project. The MESSAGE project is aimed at developing low-cost and ubiquitous sensors to collect real-time, large scale and comprehensive environmental data. As part of these objectives it is essential to understand the views, needs and requirements of local authorities on environmental data for network management and traveller information provision. This paper provides a substantial evidence for further development of sensors and data processing tools within the MESSAGE project. For the covering abstract see ITRD E140665.
