Least squares reinstatement

Least squares reinstatement means getting the best fit between a number of original survey marks. The idea in general — The concepts to be outlined below are not new. It would be of interest to know how many surveyors in Australia do apply these ideas to everyday practice. At least one paper has already been delivered in N.S.W. about this idea. At this stage, it is probably best to state the assumptions upon which least squares reinstatement is based.
