CHARMED MESON PRODUCTION BY e+e- ANNIHILATION

Compelling evidence will be presented for the production of the lying (0°,0+) isodoub12t of charmed mesons by e+e-annihilation.A study of the recoil mass spectra against these mesons reveals the presence of more massive charmed states, the 0*0 and 0*+, produced in association with the 0 isodoublet.Mass values and upper limits on the width of the 0 and 0* are established, and the branching fractions for several 0* decay modes are obtained.An analysis of the production and decay angular distributions shows that the 0 is probably a pseudoscalar state and the 0* is probably a vector.Finally, upper limits are obtained for 00_D0 mixing.* D and D spins which forms a major portion of this thesis was done in COllaboration with Khan.Many of the ideas and suggestions of others found their way into i i this thesis.Professor George Trilling has taken considerable interest in all aspects of my research and has made numerous useful suggestions.P~fessor Roy Schwitters has also worked ,on. the 0 0 ,0+ momentum spectrum and is responsible for several ideas and results described in Chapt ... r 8.
