BackgroundIn the product safety system, resources are allocated to different priority issues based on frequency, severity and preventability indicators.Injury data are required to provide evidence-based information to assist resource prioritisation.However, injury data sources are not currently being used to their full advantage to support Australia's product safety system.In 2011, the Australian Commonwealth Government implemented a national level approach to product safety regulation, the 'Australian Consumer Law'.The reform highlighted the need for better use of injury data to improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of product safety initiatives.
