The broadcast storm problem is one of the mostchallenging issues in Mobile ad Hoc Networks (MANETs).However, it is still a challenging problem despite the great dealof related works and existing solutions. Dynamic SourceRouting Protocol (DSR) is one of the well-known on-demandrouting protocols that has been widely studied and analyzedover the past few years. However, there is a lack of methodsand solutions for the broadcast storm problem in DSR under theumbrella of dynamic operating conditions. Thus, to improve therouting discovery process in DSR we incorporate a new counterbased broadcast algorithm in DSR, namely, Inspired CounterBased Broadcasting (DSR-ICB). The new variants are based onthe counter based approach which reduces the number ofredundant packets. Simulation experiments have beenconducted in different scenarios. The results illustrate that theproposed algorithm has significantly improved the DSR interms of a number of important metrics such as savedrebroadcasts, reachability, end-to-end latency, packet deliveryratio.
